Who Can Legally Administer Neurotoxins & Fillers in Colorado (Licensure & Delegation)

It’s extremely important to understand:

  • Injectable treatments (fillers, neuromodulators, etc.) are considered medical-aesthetic services under Colorado law. Elite Aesthetics Academy+2Aesthetic CRNA+2

  • Under law, only licensed medical professionals — such as MD/DO, PA, NP, RN/LPN, DDS — or individuals properly delegated and supervised by a licensed physician may legally perform dermal filler injections. Elite Aesthetics Academy+2LawShun+2

  • Being “certified” or “trained” in fillers does not override the requirement to hold an eligible medical license or to work under appropriate physician supervision. The Skin Company+1

Important Notice:
If you are a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist — without a medical license — you are not legally authorized to inject dermal fillers in Colorado. This training program can provide valuable knowledge (anatomy, consultation, safety, etc.), but you will not be permitted to inject unless you also hold an eligible medical license or are formally delegated under a licensed physician.

Recommended Additional Medical-Aesthetic Background

Because dermal fillers involve deep anatomical knowledge and medical risk management, we strongly recommend — if you’re not already medically licensed — pursuing additional credentials such as:

  • Anatomy & Physiology courses (community college or accredited online programs)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR Certification

  • Phlebotomy certification or comparable medical-level training

  • Bloodborne pathogen / infection-control training

These credentials significantly improve safety practices, clinical awareness, and job prospects in med-spa or clinical settings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can a licensed esthetician take this course and inject fillers afterward?
A: No. Without a medical license or proper physician delegation under Colorado law, you cannot legally perform injectable treatments — even if you complete the course. This training is valuable for education, consultation skills, and future career planning, but does not override licensure requirements.

Q: I’m a nurse (RN / NP / PA) — is this course enough to start injecting immediately?
A: For many licensed nurse practitioners and PAs, yes — provided state regulations allow it and you follow proper documentation, consent, and supervision standards as required by Colorado law.

Q: What if I want to become licensed in medical aesthetics but currently hold only an esthetician or cosmetology license?
A: We recommend first completing additional medical-education prerequisites (e.g., Anatomy & Physiology, phlebotomy, BLS), or pursuing a nursing or allied-health license. Once medically licensed, you can then qualify for injectable training under this program.

Q: Are complications common with dermal fillers?
A: When performed properly by trained, licensed professionals who follow safety and sanitation protocols, complications are rare. Proper anatomy knowledge, injection technique, patient screening, and aftercare greatly reduce risk.

Q: Does completing this course exempt me from ongoing training or continuing education?
A: No — the aesthetic medicine field evolves rapidly. We recommend continuing education, safety refreshers, and staying up to date on best practices and regulatory changes.
