Licensed Estheticians & Cosmetologists – Pathways into Medical Aesthetics

Colorado-licensed estheticians and cosmetologists cannot independently inject neuromodulators. However, many choose to:

  • Work in medical spas, dermatology practices, or plastic surgery clinics as medical-aesthetic assistants

  • Pursue additional medical education (e.g., nursing) to eventually qualify as injectors

  • Deepen their anatomy, physiology, and safety knowledge so they can collaborate more effectively in medical settings

For estheticians/cosmetologists, this course is best used to:

  • Understand what neuromodulator treatments are

  • Learn facial anatomy, consultation language, and contraindications

  • Become a stronger candidate for medical-aesthetic support roles

  • Prepare for future medical education (e.g., nursing school)

We strongly recommend that estheticians and cosmetologists interested in medical aesthetics complete extra anatomy and medical-safety training and consider phlebotomy or similar entry-level healthcare credentials to build their foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can estheticians do Botox in Colorado?
No. Estheticians and cosmetologists cannot legally inject neurotoxins in Colorado unless they also hold an eligible medical license and/or are properly delegated and supervised by a physician in compliance with state law.

I’m an esthetician/cosmetologist. Can I still take this course?
Yes, you may attend for education, observation, and to deepen your anatomy and medical-aesthetic knowledge — but you will not be permitted to perform injections unless you also hold an eligible medical license and meet all legal requirements.

Do I get to inject on live models?
Licensed medical professionals and properly delegated participants who meet all prerequisites and documentation requirements may perform supervised injections during the hands-on portion of the course.

Does this course make me “legal” to inject?
No course by itself can expand your state-defined scope of practice. This program provides education and hands-on training; your license type, supervising physician, and Colorado regulations determine what you can legally do.

What if I want to become a nurse or medical provider?
Many estheticians and cosmetologists use additional A&P coursework and phlebotomy certification as stepping-stones toward nursing, PA, or other medical pathways. On this page, we provide examples of affordable anatomy and phlebotomy programs in Colorado to help you plan that journey.
